Those wishing to learn a little more about this part of Hungary, or view some extremely historic, religious works of art will find a number of good museums within the city of Szeged. Linked to the Cathedral Square (Dóm Tér) by the Oskola Utca, the acclaimed Ferenc Móra Museum is housed within the Palace of Education and contains an excellent collection of historic folk art, gathered from all over the Csongrád County.
Those eating out in Szeged will soon realise that the city has become well-known for its tasty salamis and sausages, and these culinary achievements are celebrated at the Pick and Paprika Museum, where you can even sample this famous local produce.

Each of the exhibits here is clearly described in several languages, making the Ferenc Móra Museum even more interesting and the artefacts easy to fully appreciate. Many visitors will marvel at the 7th-century gold work, historic paintings and priceless treasures, while others will find the displays dedicated to the Sarmatians quite overwhelming, with finds from the 1st century discovered close by, when the M5 motorway was being constructed. Recently added to Szeged's Ferenc Móra Museum is a collection of antique furniture and art works created by Ede Thoroczkai Wigand.

Szeged Museums and Art Galleries: Dóm Museum (Cathedral Museum) - Dóm Tér, Szeged, Hungary, HU
Located on the Dóm Tér and close to the cathedral (Votive Church) itself, the Dóm Museum is home to a number of religious treasures and important artefacts. Expect to find detailed crosses, goblets, monstrances and art works portraying scenes of religion, collected from all around the Great Plain.

The Pick and Paprika Museum offers visitors the chance to learn more about the origins of the famous local salami (Pick) and the many stages involved in actually producing it today. Salami has been a favourite of local Hungarians in Szeged since the 1860s and after watching a video in the exhibition hall, you will be treated to various samples of salami, together with a free postcard. A huge variety of salami can be bought from the adjacent Pick shop, along with spicy paprika and other local delicacies.
